Calories in Sushi -Just how healthy is this stuff anyway?

First off, Sushi Guy never really worries about calories in sushi when he's casting a hungry eye towards a plate filled with kappa maki and shrimp nigiri. Why bother?

A sushi roll or tasty plate of sashimi is probably the healthiest food choice around.

The popularity of Japanese food has peaked in recent years due to the Japanese style steakhouse and sushi bars. The native Japanese diet is very low in fat and rich in magnesium, iodine, and sodium. Many offerings in Japanese restaurants are usually low in fat and calories.

Of course you might have to worry about calories if you try maki rolls that contain deep-fired tempura flakes or Japanese mayonaise. These include items like the volcano sushi roll and the Philadelphia roll. The latter has cream cheese!

The nori seaweed used in the sushi recipes on this site is rich in minerals and essential vitamins.

Items that compliment sushi rolls, like wasabi and ginger, both have antibacterial qualities.
